Storage Tips

Storage Tips

Maximize your space and keep your belongings in great shape. These are the simple habits our team in Mobile recommends to every customer before move-in day.

/ 01 Pack Smart

A little planning goes a long way

Good packing protects your belongings and makes the most of every square foot you rent. Use sturdy boxes, keep everything clean and dry before it goes in and give yourself a clear path to the back of the unit. Below are nine tips our staff shares with customers every week. Need boxes, tape or covers? We sell moving supplies at both locations and we are happy to help you plan your layout.

/ 02 Nine Tips

Store it like a pro

Simple, proven habits that keep your unit organized and your belongings safe.

01

Label Every Box

Mark every box on more than one side with its contents and the room it came from. You will find what you need without opening a stack.

02

Use Uniform Box Sizes

Matching boxes stack square and tight, so they do not topple and you waste no space. Fill each one fully so it will not collapse under weight.

03

Disassemble Large Furniture

Take apart bed frames, tables and shelving. Flat pieces take far less room, and you can lay a protective mat down before stacking the rest.

04

Leave a Center Walkway

If space allows, keep an aisle down the middle. You can reach items in the back without unloading the front of the unit.

05

Store Heavy Items Low

Put the heaviest boxes and furniture on the bottom and lighter, awkward pieces on top. Your stacks stay stable and nothing gets crushed.

06

Cover Furniture & Mattresses

Use light cotton dust covers on upholstery and mattresses. Skip plastic that traps moisture, and stack chairs seat to seat to save floor space.

07

Choose Climate Control

For furniture, electronics, documents, photos and instruments, a climate controlled unit guards against Mobile's heat and humidity.

08

List a Simple Inventory

Keep a quick list of what went into the unit and snap a few photos. It speeds up finding things and helps with insurance if you ever need it.

09

Keep Essentials Up Front

Place items you will reach for often near the door, and the things you will not touch all season toward the back of the unit.
